Donald Trump on Ivanka's Roy Moore response: 'Do you believe this?'

Trump reminded his followers of that fact in a tweet Sunday morning.

"It's about the character of our country", he said.

With Moore behind Democrat Doug Jones in the polls, conventional wisdom seems to dictate that a loss in the special Alabama Senate election would signal the end of the cowboy candidate.

"The last thing we need in Alabama and the U.S. Senate is a Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the Border, Bad for our Military and our great Vets, Bad for our 2nd Amendment, AND WANTS TO RAISES TAXES TO THE SKY", Trump tweeted.

Trump has faced criticism from others within his party for his tepid response to the allegations against Moore, with the President telling reporters "he denies it," and "you have to listen to him also".

The Republican, who has been accused of child sex abuse, is running against Democrat Doug Jones to fill Alabama's Senate seat.

Moore has been accused of sexual contact by multiple women, including Leigh Corfman, who alleges that Moore tried to initiate a sexual encounter with her when she was 14. At least five others have said he pursued romantic relationships when they were teenagers.

While Trump has not officially sided with Moore, he noted that Moore has denied the accusations of sexual misconduct against teens.

"He's definitely trying to throw a lifeline to Roy Moore", Sen.

Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, has called for Moore to drop out, saying: "I believe the women". "From a Republican point of view, I don't know what winning looks like with Roy Moore", he added.

"If he wins, we get the baggage of him winning and it becomes a story every day about whether or not you believe the women or Roy Moore, should he stay in the Senate, should he be expelled".

A statement by Jones' campaign said Moore was not fit to serve in the U.S. Senate even before sexual misconduct claims surfaced earlier this month.

A retired Gasdsen, Ala. law enforcement officer says she and her fellow officers were told to keep Republican Senate Candidate Roy Moore away from the high school cheerleading team because it was known that Moore preferred young girls.

The South Dakota legislator suggested that while "ultimately the decision is up to the people of Alabama", Mr Trump can use his power to get Mr Moore to pull out of the race.

In an interview on "Fox News Sunday", Thune said Moore's election would put the GOP agenda in jeopardy.
