Google has announced that it is revamping Maps to make it easier to understand and use.

First up, you will be able to easily identify different places with a new colour scheme on Google Maps. You probably don't care about local gas stations when you're looking up subway locations, so Maps will be smarter about which icons it shows you.

It's nearly hard to imagine these days how we've managed to survive the past decades without Google Maps and related services like Waze.

Google Introduces a New Look for Google Maps

Places like a cafe, church, museum or hospital will have a designated color and icon, so that it's easy to find that type of destination on the map. For example, if you are in a neighbourhood you are not familiar with, and wish to find a coffee shop, just open the map and find the nearest orange icon, which is the colour for Food & Drink spots.

The tech titan is updating the Maps color scheme and adding new icons so you can more easily suss out points of interest. You can check out Google's color and icon cheat sheet below. But to keep it consistent across other Google services that also use Maps, the changes will also be applied to Google Assistant, Google Search, Google Earth, and even Android Auto in the coming weeks.

The company outlined, these changes will be reflected into websites, apps, and products that have been built by other companies with the help of Google Maps APIs.
