It's confirmed, different types of alcohol trigger different emotions in people

  • Wine officially makes people feel sexier than beer – but only until they get tired

The most aggressive individuals were, on the contrary, a marked preference for drinking alcohol in your own kitchen.

After examining anonymised responses to the world's largest online survey of legal and illicit drug and alcohol use among adults, researchers found that drinking spirits such as vodka, gin or rum appeared to be more commonly associated with aggression than other drinks, 30% of spirit drinkers reporting feeling aggressive after drinking spirits.

The Global Drug Survey gathered responses from almost 30,000 people in 21 countries speaking 11 different languages. They may also be consumed in different social occasions so people may be drinking them deliberately to feel the drunken effect quickly while other types of drink are more likely to be consumed slowly or with food.

If you drink the hard stuff, you're much more likely to feel energized, confident, and sexy; those three emotions clocked in at 58.36 percent, 59.08 percent, and 42.42 percent, respectively.

The study also asked how strong the respondents' dependency on alcohol was and found that people with a higher dependency were more likely to say they felt all emotions. It showed that they were six times more aggressive than the off and on alcohol users. The only emotions that didn't have disproportionately high percentages are tiredness and relaxedness.

If you want to feel relaxed after a hard day, better order wine or beer. More than 22% of those surveyed reported feeling tearful, compared to less than 10% of beer and white wine drinkers. Less than 1 in 5 (19 per cent) beer drinkers reported similar feelings. The options included beer, red wine, white wine, vodka etc. "Overall 29.8% of respondents reported feeling aggressive when drinking spirits, compared with only 7.1% when drinking red wine", wrote the researchers in the final report.

The study set out to investigate the emotional responses generated by different types of alcoholic beverages. For example, although the Hemingway personality insists that those who have it don't change at all when they're drunk, it's worth noting that the personality type got its name from the Hemingway quote about his being able to "drink any amount of whiskey without getting drunk".

Everyone who took the survey responded to questions about how they felt after drinking wine, liquor, beer, and cider-though cider didn't have enough responses so was left out of the final analysis-and their drinking habits, like how often and how much they drank. Or. not? And if not, how does your personality affect which of those emotions tends to come out when you drink certain things? From the foregoing psychologists have concluded that to reduce the risk of developing alcoholism and frequency of drinking, the prices of spirits that exist today, is to significantly increase. Anyone feeling up to the task? But, I mean, hey - at least all those questions do give us some more angles that further research actually could explore.

In the meantime, have fun, but drink responsibly!
