  • James Franco set for X-Men spin-off movie Multiple Man

A part of the "X-Men" universe, "Multiple Man" - born Jamie Madrox - is a mutant character with the ability to create instant duplicates of himself. He is a mutant who has the ability to create "dupes" - ideal replicas of himself - and absorb them back into himself, gaining their memories, knowledge and skills. This also won't be Franco's first foray into comic book media, as he previously played Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. No longer just a group of X-Men-adjacent superheroes, the X-Factor Madrox belonged to was a team of federally-employed heroes that also included Havok and Quicksilver, two characters already present in X-Men movie continuity. Ramona Films, the shingle that Franco runs with brother Dave Franco and Vincent Jolivette, is also producing the picture in association with Kinberg's Genre Films, for 20th Century Fox. After originally declining X-Men membership, Madrox has become a great ally over the years, but it hasn't stopped him operating in somewhat of a gray area morally. There will be three X-Men films next year, including New Mutants (April 13), Deadpool 2 (June 1) and X-Men: Dark Phoenix (November 2). Fox has had a hard time getting some of its "X-Men" spinoff properties off the ground (see: the ongoing struggle to make Channing Tatum's "Gambit" movie), so we'll see how this one fares in the development stages.

Here, the character Multiple Man was portrayed by Grey's Anatomy star Eric Dane, but was nothing more than a beefy bodyguard. The suit malfunctions, causing Multiple Man to go insane.
