  • Koenigsegg Agera RS hits 284 mph on way to new land speed record

You know, the Raging Bull that used to hold the Nurburgring production auto record (the supercar set a lap time of 6:52) before the Porsche 911 GT2 RS grabbed it. Koenigsegg factory test driver Niklas Lilja hit the incredible speed on a closed road in Nevada on the second run that's shown in this video, having hit 272mph on the run before.

This very same vehicle was stretched to its Earth-scorching limits by factory test driver Niklas Lilja on Saturday, along an 11-mile (17.7 km) piece of public highway near Las Vegas on Saturday that had been shut down by Nevada authorities for the attempt. Earlier in October, Koenigsegg took another record from Bugatti, smashing the 0-400-0 km/h record.

The Koenigsegg Agera RS was able to pull off the feat thanks to its 1,160-horsepower 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, not to mention the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires wrapped around all four wheels.

You can watch both high-speed runs in the video above, which was posted on YouTube by Julian Thomas.

That record had been held by a Hennessey Venom GT which was recorded at 270.5mph in 2014. Lija is said to have hit over 291mph in one direction. All data on the day was recorded and verified on site by Racelogic.

Koenigsegg's records may not be safe for long, as Hennessey is claiming that its new Venom F5 may be able to approach 300 miles per hour.

The Chiron is claimed to have a top speed limited to 261mph, but Bugatti has hinted at a potential for 310mph. The Agera RS bests Bugatti's record of 265.7 miles per hour by over 12 mph-a record set by the French firm's Veyron Super Sport back in 2010. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
