It is expected that both drivers and riders will decide to abandon the beleaguered company in a hurry if they decide Uber can't be trusted to keep their personal information secure.

Tel Aviv: An Israeli court has ordered global ride-hailing app Uber to stop two of its services here in the absence of proper travel insurance.

Judge Eitan Orenstein ruled on Monday that because Uber drivers lack the necessary insurance to cover passengers, he could not allow the company to continue operating its Uber Day and Uber Night services, which utilize privately owned vehicles. According to local media, Uber was doing well since entering the Israeli market - perhaps too well from the perspective of its competitors, licensed taxis.

Globes reports "At the beginning of November, Uber Israel began operating its UberDAY ridesharing service in Tel Aviv and the neighboring cities of Ramat Gan and Givatayim with journeys undertaken to Herzliya in the north and Bat Yam in the south".

"While we are ending our UberNIGHT and UberDAY pilots, we will continue to offer UberTAXI in Israel", a company spokeswoman said.

The lawsuit was brought by the Association of Taxi Drivers and rival online taxi operator Gett.

Israel's transportation ministry is also pursuing a court case against Uber, saying its ride-sharing services violate the law. In mid-January, the Israeli Transportation Ministry's trial against Uber will begin, demanding the immediate cessation of the company's activity in Israel and that a fine be imposed for criminal activity.
