  • Apple files countersuit against Qualcomm regarding processor patents

Two of those were related to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and 820 processors, which powered Samsung phones and Google Pixel phones. "Qualcomm's paid advertising makes wildly inflated claims about its role in the development of the smartphone, but the facts show that it was Apple that put an easy-to-use computer-phone in the palm of people's hands, not Qualcomm".

The Apple law suit comes after Qualcomm sued it last July for using elements of its battery life patents.

According to a Reuters report, Apple's filing states that "Apple began seeking those patents years before Qualcomm began seeking the patents it asserts against Apple in this case".

Qualcomm filed its patent infringement lawsuit at the same time it filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission seeking to ban the import of Apple iPhones that use competing Intel chips because of the alleged patent violations.

The legal battle between Apple and Qualcomm continues to heat up.

Qualcomm General Counsel Don Rosenberg said the timing of Qualcomm's lawsuits is coincidental to Apple's countersuit. In a connected case, Qualcomm charged the contract manufacturers that create Apple's devices, however Apple associated with the team to defend them.

In better news for Apple, Piper Jaffray analyst Michael Olson says the iPhone X will lead to a longer "super cycle" and the company "may be increasingly well positioned to experience a strong multi-year iPhone trajectory".

Qualcomm in November sued Apple over an alleged breach of a software agreement between the two companies.

It is purely a coincidence that many of Qualcomm's chips find their way into Android smartphones. Separately, Qualcomm is facing a lawsuit from the US Federal Trade Commission over numerous same pricing practices Apple names in its complaints.
