  • Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm is back for the first time in more than 20 years in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

The explosive new featurette is full of new footage and insights into the movie but also features the first look of one of the franchise's most memorable characters, Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. It would seem then that Fallen Kingdom will explore some of the fallout from the park's (second) failure and the casualties that resulted from it.

Along with a brand new First-Look photo, Entertainment Weeklyhas concrete information about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's story. "But it's not what you would necessarily expect".

Original Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow (who also co-writes the sequel) told jurassicoutpost.com the new film will be darker.

This whole volcano bit is indeed an unexpected direction to take the narrative, especially since Jurassic movies have generally been all about surviving the dinosaurs, not trying to make sure they survive. With his focus on terror and suspense, mixed in with the high adventure of the first Jurassic World, it's sure to be a great mix that helps brings back what made Jurassic Park great back in the 1990s. A glimpse at filming a courtroom scene features Dr. Ian sitting on a panel behind his Dr. Macolm nametag, delivering the hint-hint/wink-wink line: "Here I am talking about dinosaurs again?"

While Jurassic World inspired in many the same feelings we had seeing convincingly realistic dinosaurs on the big screen back in 1993, it was a bit short on nods to the stars of the previous entries.

In the hours leading up to the trailer's release, the studio has just unveiled their latest promotional material, a behind-the-scenes look at the film. "I know this!" repeated by Bryce Dallas Howard.

The film is directed by J.A. Bayona and is due for release on June 22, 2018.
