  • Mariah Carey performs during New Year's Eve 2017 in Times Square

Mariah Carey will return to Times Square to perform for a live audience of more than one million people, just minutes before the ball drops on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2018. She will perform at 11:45 PM for what's being called a "redemptive" performance.

The 47-year-old entertainer suffered a major technical malfunction and was accused of lip-syncing during her performance on ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve last year. But it was announced on Friday that Mariah Carey is returning to New Year's Rockin' Eve this year, and there's a strong chance that the singer will be able to redeem herself this time around. She was visibly upset and stopped singing, despite a pre-recorded track playing in the background proving that she does not sing all her music live.

The chaotic show went viral - but not for the right reasons. With that, the singer also issued an audio statement via Twitter airing out her frustrations and claiming that Dick Clark Productions used the performance as "an opportunity to humiliate me". Dick Clark Productions made the decision to ask her on and she agreed. Mariah is a singer/songwriter/producer recognized with multiple Grammy Awards, 21 American Music Awards, Billboard's "Artist of the Decade" Award, the World Music Award for "World's Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium", and BMI's "Icon Award" for her outstanding achievements in songwriting, to name a few - with her distinct five-octave vocal range, prolific songwriting, and producing talent, Mariah is truly the template of the modern pop performance. Other performers scheduled to appear include Camila Cabello, Nick Jonas and Sugarland. The show is marking its 46 anniversary, and Seacrest has hosted from Times Square for the past 12 years.

Ryan Seacrest and Jenny McCarthy will host the year-end program live from New York City's Times Square on ABC at 8PM ET.
