As pointed out by Daniel Ahmad, Wii games on Shield cost the equivalent of just $10. Nvidia is teaming up with Nintendo to launch the Shield Android TV box in China with an assortment of games from the Wii and Gamecube. Twilight Princess and Punch-Out! in 1080p. He said efforts to bring its new Nintendo Switch hybrid console to China continues independently of its partnership with Nvidia.

If these Wii games run at 1080p, a resolution the Wii didn't actually support, they'll be crisp running in the Switch's Handheld mode which only requires 720p output.

Through a licensing deal with Nvidia, Nintendo is bringing major Wii and GameCube games to Android.

Nvidia and Nintendo announced they will be partnering to deliver Wii and GameCube titles to China via the Nvidia Shield. According to the leading gaming website, Gamespot, New Super Mario Bros.

This isn't the first time Nintendo games have made it onto non-Nintendo hardware-or even the first time Nintendo has released games in China since the ban.

And now New Super Mario Bros. Some others have been mentioned as coming soon; Super Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime among the future lineup.

What's notable about this launch, though, is the inclusion of ported Nintendo games on the Shield.

It's a significant shift for Nintendo, which has kept its home-grown games exclusively for its own home and handheld consoles since the early 1980s. China's gaming market generated US$24.6 billion in revenue past year, compared with US$24.1 billion in the U.S. The Shield has been customized for the Chinese market through partnerships with Baidu's DuerOS conversational AI system and entertainment options from iQIYI.

Nintendo has been particularly hard-hit by piracy, which is rampant in China and has dissuaded console manufacturers from launching their products in spite of the huge market potential.
