Pennsylvania woman stunned by $284 billion electric bill

  • An error left Mary Horomanski of Erire Pa. with a $284 billion electric bill

When an Pennsylvanian woman went online to check her electricity bill this month, she was shocked to find that she "owed" more than $284billion. Can you blame her? "I told him I want a heart monitor", Horomanski said jokingly, referring to the Christmas present she demanded from her son for this year. Naturally, she blamed her Christmas lights. Not even Clark Griswold could rack up such a bill with Christmas lights, so it was obviously a mistake.

She was told she had until November 2018 to pay off the massive bill.

Horomanski, suspecting that something was off with her bill, sent a text message to her son to contact the electric company about the issue.

That's a pretty big difference.

It all ends well, as Penelec confirmed that the statement, amounting to $284,460,000,000, was an error on their part.

After discovering the bill, Horomanski had her son call Penelec, Horomanski's electric supplier, for an explanation.

But until the error was figured out, Horomanski wondered if maybe her family was at fault.

A spokesperson for Penelec's parent company said he doesn't know how the mistake happened. Somehow, a decimal place in the customer's normal bill total took a bit of a holiday vacation and traveled several decimal places to the right, turning a $284.46 total into something much, much higher.
