  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath are scheduled to open this much awaited Metro Link to the public on December 25

The senior Aam Aadmi Party leader also said those who "hiked Delhi Metro fares fear Kejriwal".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today advocated the use of public transport to save on fuel and costs associated with the import of petroleum, saying travelling on a metro train should be a "prestige issue".

The Delhi Metro Rail Corp. has said the highly automated train will run initially with a driver but could become driverless in the future.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath. He unveiled a plaque at Botanical Garden Metro Station, to mark the inauguration of a portion of the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro, connecting Botanical Garden in Noida with Kalkaji Mandir in South Delhi. "Due to his dress, few people find it fashionable to believe that CM Yogi Adityanath is not "modern enough" but it is Yogi Adityanath Ji who has done what CMs of UP never did - he came to Noida", said PM Modi. "Governance can not happen when the dominant thought process begins at "Mera Kya" and ends at 'Mujhe Kya.' We have changed these mindsets".

Aditynath said that in the nine months of his rule, he was taking decisions without any partisan attitude or self interest.

On December 24, 2002 then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee took a ride on the metro, Modi recalled.

It is an achievement to have prime minister in the state, Adityanath said as he welcomed Modi. Both stations fall in Noida, a suburban town in Uttar Pradesh bordering New Delhi.

"I ignored this and visited all such places", Modi said and pointing that he remained Gujarat CM for almost 20 years.

The Magenta Line also marks the usage of the first platform screen doors (PSDs), which are glass-made screens installed near the edge of platforms that open only when a train arrives and shut after it departs. The coaches will reportedly have LED display, power charging capacity, and colourful seats, while the stations will portray themes of nature, yoga, and cultural landmarks.
