Scott Frost hired as head coach of Nebraska

  • Scott Frost hired as head coach of Nebraska

The 42-year-old Frost, who will be introduced at a Sunday news conference, takes over for Mike Riley, who was sacked last Saturday. Frost will be officially introduced as Nebraska's head coach during a press conference on Sunday, Dec. 3, at noon.

"I'm staying dialed in by doing my job". I am truly humbled to be here.

Rumors of the 42-year-old college football coach and Nebraska-native returning home have been in the works for weeks, but Frost worked to remain loyal to his undefeated Knights at the University of Central Florida through the remainder of their regular season and a win against the Memphis Tigers Saturday in the American Athletic Conference championship game. In 2015, the season before Frost took over, UCF finished with a record of 0-12.

He then went to OR to work as receivers coach under Kelly, and when Helfrich took over as head coach in 2013, he appointed Frost as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Frost's three predecessors had no ties to Nebraska, and his track record at OR and UCF has fans confident he is the right man to return the Huskers to their place in the college football hierarchy. Nebraska won the National title in 1997 with Frost at the helm.

He returned to Nebraska and sat out the team's 1995 national championship season due to transfer rules. Nebraska finished 4-8 this season, the team's worst record in nearly 60 years. Scott Frost to Nebraska is looking likelier and likelier as the week goes on, but in case you needed one more indication that Frost is coming back to Lincoln, Huskers fans, here you go.

"I am appreciative of the confidence Bill Moos and our university leadership have in me to lead this program", Frost said.
