  • JuJu Smith Schuster Annihilated Vontaze Burfict On A Crackback Block

During the Steelers' come-from-behind win over the Bengals on Monday night, Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster decked Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict with a high block that concussed Burfict and ended his night.

Smith-Schuster would wish Burfict well, but the National Football League wasn't about let him get away with such a reckless hit.

In his letter to Smith-Schuster notifying him of the suspension, Runyan noted that Smith-Schuster violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 7 which prohibits unnecessary contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture and Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 which prohibits unsportsmanlike conduct.

Although there is no doubt that the Steelers rookie made helmet-to-helmet contact with Burfict, the hit still occurred before the whistle. He has continued to make a couple of key catches per week, and even had his second touchdown of the season a couple of games ago, despite dropping a pass earlier.

As Williams points out, many current and National Football League players believe Smith-Schuster and Iloka shouldn't have been suspended at all - Mitchell among them.

Smith-Schuster told reporters he "messed up" with the taunting, because he cost his team 15 yards.

"He shouldn't have stood over him", Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said.

When asked if his comments were related to Burfict, Brown said, "I ain't talking about nobody".

Iloka's agent, Ron Slavin, released a statement saying thank you to Brooks but reiterated that they felt Iloka did nothing wrong. "I didn't mean to stand over him".

Don't get me wrong, he is still overall being a contributor.

Along with suspending JuJu, the league also handed down a one game suspension to Bengals safety George Iloka for his hit on Antonio Brown. Brown was a game-time decision.
