White Christmas assured; Arctic cold to follow

Snow is forecast across parts of Scotland on Christmas Day, with ice expected to form on roads and pavements into Boxing Day. One was on I-70 eastbound near 78th Street, and the other was on northbound I-635 near I-70.

"The air mass is borderline cold enough for snow", the Weather Service said in a statement. Gusty winds and near-zero temperatures will bring wind chills to around minus 20 for several hours.

The last time there was a picture postcard Christmas with snow was in 2010 but today will see grey skies.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with a high of 29 and a low of 17.

On Christmas Day, snow is likely, and the day will be cloudy and cold, with a high near 6 and east northeast wind around 9 miles per hour.

More snow on Saturday kept the ground white and temperatures remained cold on Sunday as the region prepared for a new round of winter weather.

Tonight, Christmas Eve, the low will be around 17 with mostly clear skies and a wet wind of 7 miles per hour, according to the weather service. Expect it to be a breezy day, too, with a west wind of 16 to 21 miles per hour and gusts as high as 40 miles per hour.

The Weather Service has issued a wind chill warning for most of northern Minnesota and a wind chill advisory near Lake Superior.

Tuesday, expect a high of 18 with mostly cloudy skies, the weather service said, with a north northeast wind of 7 to 9 miles per hour.

Most overnight lows the rest of the week are expected to be in the single digits to around 10 degrees in Omaha. High pressure will be over the area on Monday through Wednesday.

Thursday, there will be a 30 percent chance of snow before noon, with a high near 30, the weather service said.

With tourist thronging Shimla, in large numbers, noticeable on the Ridge and the Mall Road, the more than 150-year-old Christ Church was the most visited place of Shimla city marking the Christmas fervour.
