Updated | Steve Bannon, President Donald Trump's embattled former chief strategist, has agreed to an interview with the House Intelligence Committee as part of its probe into Russia's election meddling and links to the Trump campaign, according to one source close to the committee and a second source with knowledge of the matter.

"What did we have?"

"Saying 'knowingly false things while the money pours into your bank account?' Not only is that Trump's business plan in its entirety - it's literally what they're going to write on his headstone: 'He knowingly said false things while money poured into his bank accounts, '" he added. Well before the 2016 presidential election, Democrats and "Never Trump" Republicans said then-candidate Donald Trump was a racist, xenophobic know-nothing and a liar.

After the publication by Business Insider, Michelle Goldberg of The New York Times tweeted the page.

The president told The Wall Street Journal in an interview that he felt "betrayed" by Bannon's comments.

The President made no mention of "Fire and Fury", the new Michael Wolff book that takes a critical look at Trump's first year in office. The representation doesn't extend to special counsel Robert Mueller's probe or to Bannon's transition to government and his White House service, the person said.

According to the testimony of Fusion GPS head Glenn Simpson, an associate of Mr Trump expressed concerns to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about contacts between Russian Federation and Mr Trump's presidential election campaign team, helping to trigger the probe into possible collusion. "I don't believe there's any way back for Mr. Bannon at this point", Gidley said.

President Trump said Wednesday he wants to toughen the country's libel laws, a week after accusing the author of an unflattering book about his presidency of publishing defamatory information about him and his family. The survey was conducted last Thursday and Friday, just after Bannon's public falling out with the White House on Wednesday.

Bannon on Sunday released a statement expressing regret over the comments. The leading national reporters covering the White House, including at least one who still supports Trump, are arguing whether Trump was a moron (as stated by his secretary of state) or was "only" suffering a mental disorder that has now grown much worse.
