Conte: My players are exhausted

  • Harry Redknapp believes Antonio Conte will quit Chelsea before next season

The Blues are yet to record a win so far in 2018, drawing four straight matches.

@LaurensJulien says Antonio Conte has moved ahead of Mauricio Pochettino and the "little man" Jose Mourinho on PSG's wanted list. (But) there is something unusual if, after the first game we lost against Burnley, the press pushed quickly to sack me for another coach.

"I think we played with a lot of top players against Arsenal, and then again today against a very good team", Conte told the BBC. I saw a lot of players very exhausted.

With most of Leicester City's first choice players now fit and charged, Puel also has the luxury of fielding a fully fit side as opposed to Conte, who will have a relatively exhausted set of players to pick from.

Some Chelsea supporters will be champing at the bit to see £15 million January recruit Ross Barkley in action as soon as possible, but it's likely Saturday's clash will come too soon for the sidelined star.

Chelsea were held to a frustrating goalless draw by Leicester at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, on a day that saw the bottom half of the table remain incredibly tight.

Chelsea also created a few chances of their own, but they failed to punish the away side's profligacy.

Conte then used up the rest of his substitutions by sending on Willian and Pedro for Eden Hazard and Fabregas, and the Brazilian started to cause problems for the visitors with his direct running.

"We played Wednesday night and played against a really good team in good physical form like Leicester after only two-and-a-half days".

Unusually Leicester had 53.6 per cent of possession in the first half, as Wilfred Ndidi matched N'Golo Kante by winning the ball back on eight occasions, and Tiemoue Bakayoko struggled to get into the game either offensively or defensively.

The 26-year-old's understanding with Jamie Vardy was Leicester's best opportunity for goals and their link-up play had the Chelsea defence beat on numerous occasions.

Chelsea woke up in the second half, and had a great chance to capitalise on a Leicester mistake as defender Ben Chilwell was sent off for a second bookable offence 67 minutes in, but even with the extra man the Blues could not find a goal.

Coming back to his best, slowly but surely.

Hazard wasn't having the best game admitted, but he's their most unsafe player going forward and can create something out of nothing.
