Fired Engineer Sues, Claims Google Discriminates Against White, Male Conservatives

James Damore, a former Google engineer who was sacked in August after posting a memo to an internal Google message board, arguing that women may not be equally represented in tech because they are biologically less capable of engineering, has filed a class action lawsuit against the company in Santa Clara Superior Court in Northern California. They want to represent other Google employees and former employees who they claimed were "ostracised, belittled and punished" by the company for their political views and for being white males. According to his filing, Google employs "illegal hiring quotas to fill its desired percentages of women and favored minority candidates, and openly shames managers of business units who fail to meet their quotas-in the process, openly denigrating male and Caucasian employees as less favored than others".
Months later, Damore has now decided that it was unfair for Google to fire him for his sexist rhetoric, so he's suing them for ... discrimination against white males.
Damore was sacked in August after his anti-diversity essay, distributed within Google, was made public.
The suit claims employees were awarded peer bonuses for arguing against Damore: "In one example of this, an employee gave a Peer Bonus to another employee, and stated that the bonus was for 'speaking up for googley values and promoting [diversity and inclusion] in the wretched hive of scum and villainy that is [Damore's Memo].' The Google Recognition Team reviewed this justification, considered it appropriate, and allowed the bonus to proceed". The lawsuitalleges Google awarded bonuses to employees who criticized Damore, kept internal blacklists to prevent conservative employees from getting opportunities at the company and failed to protect workers who supported President Trump.
In September previous year, a suit filed on behalf of all women hired by the company in California since 2013 claimed the company consistently pays men more for doing similar work as women in similar conditions.
His claims: that Google unfairly discriminates against white men whose political views are unpopular with its executives. He claimed that women's "neuroticism" and men's "higher drive for status" are among the factors that contribute to gender disparities in tech.
The suit goes through exhaustive details of Damore, the memorandum he put together to point out how Google could still hire in women and minorities without lowering the bar of employment quality with diversity quotas, and how women could be assigned to jobs better suited to the strengths of their gender rather than trying to shoehorn them into positions where they didn't necessarily excel.
Damore was eventually fired, but he was never explicitly told what policy he violated. Four women allege they were underpaid by Google compared with their male counterparts.
The lawsuit is seeking monetary, non-monetary, and punitive remedies.
Damore became an alt-right celebrity after his firing. The class action suit is also demanding for a jury trial.
