For the lovers of series and movies, Game of Thrones season eight is set to sir in 2019.

HBO said directors for the final season will be David Benioff & D.B. Weiss, the series co-creators, as well as David Nutter and Miguel Sapochnik, who have won Emmys for their work on the lavish fantasy.

HBO announced previous year that the hit series would end with Season 8.

The seventh season ended last August with an average of more than 30 million USA viewers per episode across multiple platforms.

The hit sitcom "Game of Thrones" will now return in 2019 after a year's gap, say officials.

If you hoped 2018 would be better than the last - think again.

Production began in October, and is expected to continue filming well into this year.

Starring Kit Harington, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and numerous other big names, Game of Thrones tells the story of noble families vying for control of the Iron Throne, all the while keeping one eye on the "White Walkers" leading hordes of the undead in an invasion from the North. Of those, 12.1 million watched the episode as it aired, making it the most-watched episode in series history.

Showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss announced in 2016 it would finish with 13 episodes spread over a final two seasons.

Season 7, which had only seven episodes, concluded on August 27, 2017.
