Locals will also remember the two other Sears locations in Christiana and Newark that closed in recent years.

The Bangor Daily News reports Sears Holdings announced Thursday it's closing its location in the Bangor Mall in April.

The latest round includes the Red Oak location on N Broadway set for early April. "Eligible associates will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores".

A statement released by Sears Holdings said the closings come in an effort to "right size" their store footprint and to find a balance between a physical and digital presence.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as January 12 at the stores being closed, the company stated. Sears didn't say how many workers would lose their jobs. The rise of e-commerce competition is cited as a major cause of the scaled-down operations.

- Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD) said on Thursday it was shuttering 103 unprofitable Kmart and Sears stores as it continues to streamline operations amid mounting debt and a string of quarterly losses.

In 2006, the company operated more than 3,000 locations in USA and a few hundred in Canada.

Sears has announced it will close its store in Bangor, Maine.
