Liverpool's pursuit of Thomas Lemar has been given a major boost after AS Monaco manager Leonardo Jardim admitted that the club could be open to doing business during the ongoing January transfer window. Liverpool are also said to be interested in the French starlet in a bid to keep the attacking steel intact at the Anfield.
Laurens told BBC Radio 5 Live's Euro Leagues Football Show: "I love it how for all Liverpool fans that it's a given that Lemar is going to come and replace Coutinho as early as this month". Lemar is valued at £90m by the French club and it remains to be seen which club is willing to match their valuation. Coutinho bagging a whopping £142 million from Barcelona has motivated Monaco to sell their stalwart for a maximum price as they feel they can squeeze a good amount from the Lemar deal.
Of course, Liverpool are adamant they won't be held to ransom over targets in the winter window if it looks like a club is looking to take advantage of the fact that the Reds are cash heavy after the £146 million sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.
"And, for Lemar, it's a risk to go to Liverpool right now in the way that, at Monaco, he would play every single game".
Meanwhile, Monaco are out of the Champions League and are all but out of the Ligue 1 title race with a rampant Paris Saint Germain (PSG) side sitting on top of the table with a nine points lead.
And according to the Mirror, Monaco would be seeking an eye-watering fee of at least £90 million if they were to sell the 22-year-old.
"So for Monaco, and I'm not saying they might still sell him now, but for them it would make no sense whatsoever to do so and that's why they're saying, one and off the record: "We don't usually sell in January, especially not our big players. But the transfer window lasts until the end of the month and many things can happen".
