  • India says $500 million missile deal with Israel will move ahead

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will take 130 businessmen with him to India next week for trade talks which will also cover defence sales, a senior Israeli official said Wednesday. Now, it is learnt that the government is considering buying the missiles through G- to-G route, as per PTI.

In 1950, India recognised Israel, but did not establish diplomatic relations.

"There is a lot of importance to votes at the UN", Carmon said.

"The question is if it will influence our relationship or if it can influence the relationship", Carmon said in response to a question with reference to New Delhi's vote in the United Nations in favour of a resolution that denounced US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

A case in point of Israel supporting India was when India wanted its candidate, justice Dalveer Bhandari, elected to the Hague-based International Court of Justice, Carmon said.

PM Modi will be hosting a private dinner for Netanyahu on January 14, 2018, after his arrival in New Delhi.

On the impact of India's recent decision to cancel a half a billion dollars defence deal related to development of spike antitank guided missiles, Netanyahu said: "I think you are going to see an expansion of economic and other ties regardless of this or that deal".

The two sides will sign agreements and also issue a joint press statement.

During his visit, Mr Netanyahu will hold meetings with Mr Modi and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj.

He would be then participating in a dialogue at Hyderabad house which will also include a one-on-one discussion with PM Modi. This will be followed by business summits and a call-on with President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Modi will be reciprocating the reception he received from Netanyahu during his visit to Israel in July. Both PMs are expected to lead a road show as well in Ahmadabad.

In Mumbai on January 18, Netanyahu would be meeting with the Indian Jewish community.

Israel has become a major defence supplier to India, a strong security partner, a collaborator in the high-value diamond trade, and a provider of frontier technologies in agriculture, water, cybersecurity and innovation. Modi's visit was a very important milestone in that.

Following all-night marathon negotiations, cabinet ministers on Friday morning unanimously approved a 2019 state budget of NIS 397.3 billion ($116.1 billion), which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised would ensure the political stability the government needed to survive until the end of its term late next year.
