  • South Korea, US working closely for joint response to North Korea: US State Dept. official

This Nov. 29, 2017, file image provided by the North Korean government on Nov. 30, 2017, shows what the North Korean government calls the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile, at an undisclosed location in North Korea.

Leader Kim Jong Un says North Korea completed its nuclear force in 2017 and the US must know it is a reality.

The entire mainland of the USA is within the range of our nuclear weapons and the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office.

As 2018 beckons, the question now is whether the North will conduct more tests until it can confidently deploy its new long-range missile, and whether it will detonate a nuclear weapon over the Pacific to demonstrate once and for all its capabilities.

The aggressive tests have led to more global sanctions and pressure on North Korea amid concerns that the window for stopping or rolling back its nuclear program is closing rapidly. He also said that "as long as there's no aggression against" North Korea, it does "not intend to use nuclear powers".

USA analysts also say the Hwasong-10, or Musudan, a single-stage missile successfully tested by North Korea in June 2016, appears to use the same engine and many design features as the Soviet Union's R-27 Zyb, designed by Makeyev scientists and advertised in one of the brochures obtained by The Post.

It also demanded that the US suspend its war drills with its allies in the Korean Peninsula.

KCNA accused President Donald Trump of employing unprecedented hostile policies against North Korea and threatening it with talks of pre-emptive strikes.

We did not get upset with Israel, Pakistan and India for joining the nuclear club, but we get in a dither about North Korea and about Iran's nuclear program. "These weapons will be used only if our security is threatened".
