POWERFUL Strong gusts of 70mph are forecast to batter the UK next week

She added: "The strong winds coincide with high tides in some western areas which could lead to large waves which could have some impact as well".

Storm Eleanor, the fifth winter storm of the season, is expected to make landfall this evening.

A wind warning is in place for Dublin, Galway, Clare, Carlow, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Limerick and Tipperary.

"There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life, as well as minor property damage, from flying debris".

"Storm Eleanor will bring a very windy spell to the United Kingdom on Tuesday night and Wednesday with gales or severe gales in places and national severe weather warnings have been issued as there is the potential for some travel disruption, and high waves throwing beach material on to sea fronts, roads and coastal properties, along western and southern coasts". If you are in areas affected by the flood warnings please be prepared and where necessary take action to protect property, friends and family.

The storm is threatening Ireland and the west of the United Kingdom with winds of up to 90mph, putting lives at risk, the Met Office has said.

"If you're travelling, please check your route before setting off and don't drive through flood water".

As well as high winds there's also heavy rain too.

"Our frontline teams are on the ground, checking defences and may close coastal flood gates". Leading to a very windy start to the day tomorrow.
