  • National Weather Service: Coldest air mass of the season to arrive this weekend; snow Thursday

A wind chill advisory has been issued for the region from 6 p.m. Sunday to 1 p.m. Monday.

The record low for Tuesday morning is 12 below zero set in 1887 and we may tie that record as well. Wind chill values drop as low as -5 to -15 until about mid-morning. Make sure you wear a hat and gloves.$$. Temperatures drop down into the low teens tonight but winds at 10-15 miles per hour will make it feel like the negatives. Sub-freezing temperatures will return Wednesday night and persist through at least Friday afternoon. There's the potential for absolutely nothing to some snow showers, or even a period of light snow east. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur in 10 to 30 minutes in these conditions. Thermometers only rise into the mid-upper teens with a bone chilling wind chill.

Northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas are starting off the new year with bone-chilling temperatures Monday morning.

As we close the chapter on 2017 and welcome in the new year, we'll do so on an extremely cold note. And if you haven't already, join us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter and Instagram.

With the Arctic air in place, there are both hard freeze and wind chill warnings tonight. Stay warm and happy in 2018!
