  • 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe leaked All-new SUV breaks cover ahead of February 7 debut

As reported a few days ago, the new, fourth-generation 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and 2019 Santa Fe XL will have their world premiere later this month before making their public debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in early March. The front is a complex and curious combination of split headlights, muscular hood and the brand's new Cascading Grille.

It's bigger than the outgoing Santa Fe too, 70mm longer and 10mm wider, and Hyundai says that it has a longer wheelbase, which may mean (at last) that someone other than very small children might fit in the third-row seats in the boot. Hyundai said this means more room on the inside of the vehicle.

Comparing the front three-quarters shot to the recently renderings, it's evident the production Santa Fe actually looks a lot like what Hyundai had on the drawing board.

Practicality, a major consideration for buyers in this segment, has also been improved.

Using the handy Google Translate tool to decipher the press release published by Hyundai South Korea, we are able to learn the KDM-spec model will be offered with 2.0- and 2.2-liter turbodiesel engines joined by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline unit. There's also a song identification feature, developed in conjunction with SoundHound. Among the list of new tech is a Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist system, which will apply the brakes if a rear collision appears likely. The Santa Fe also sees the first use of Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), which will alert the driver upon leaving the auto if it detects a passenger still sitting in the rear of the vehicle. An eight-speed automatic transmission and Hyundai's HTRAC all-wheel drive system are standard across the range.
