South Africa stand-in skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and put India in to bat in the third One-day International (ODI) of the six-match series at Newlands here on Wednesday. He reached his 25th ODI fifty off 42 deliveries and looked set for three figures before chipping one to South Africa captain Aiden Markram at short mid-wicket to be caught after 63-ball 76 that had 12 fours in it.

India now hold a 2-0 lead over a depleted South Africa side, who will go into the third ODI without AB de Villiers, captain Faf du Plessis and wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock. At Newlands, India have played four matches, winning two and losing two. Duminy was the only South African batsman who stood up to the Indian bowlers with a well-made 51. Kohli and other batsmen have followed the lead of bowlers and this third ODI could prove to be the most decisive match.

This is also the highest individual score by an Indian batsman against South Africa in South Africa, as Kohli went past Sourav Ganguly's 127 at Johannesburg in 2001. Asked about they were aiming to make a turnaround in the series, Rabada said: "In an ideal world, close to the flawless game, if a lot of people score runs and lot of people take wickets".

The South Africans have been below par with the bat struggling big time against the Indian spin.

Kohli started off vulnerably, escaping an lbw call on nought off Kagiso Rabada, thanks to a huge inside edge but settled down quickly to launch the counter attack. Momentarily though, India s run-rate dipped below 5/over as Chris Morris (1-45) exerted some control over proceedings.

In the second ODI we saw a brilliant knock by Shikhar Dhawan as he smashed a nice half century.

When it seemed like the partnership was going to blossom even further, the off-spin of JP Duminy did the trick for the Proteas.

303/6 - India's total of 303/6 is their highest in an ODI against South Africa in South Africa. Dhawan, however, feels that uncertainty in their minds is working to India's advantage.

MS Dhoni (10) then stemmed the down-curve and added 40 runs with Kohli.

Prior to the opening match, India did not get to play an global game since the 2017 World Cup, where the side made it to the finals before slumping to a heartbreaking nine-run defeat at Lord's against England to lose by nine runs.
