  • New iOS Bug Can Crash iPhones, Render iMessages and Apps Inaccessible

The Italian site MobileWorld found that sending a single Indian language (Telugu) character to devices will cause the iOS Springboard to crash once received.

Apple gadgets running iOS 11.2.5 or macOS, are susceptible to the bug, which disables access to iMessages. It gets worse from here as the bug will continue crashing the apps until you remove the character from the app which is hard if you can't open the app.

This includes WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Gmail, and Outlook for iOS, with Skype and Telegram being the only exceptions.

Apple has finally confirmed that it is working on a fix which would eradicate the character bug which causes iOS, macOS and watchOS to crash. If someone sends you the symbol and iOS tries to show it in a notification, the entire system software that manages the Home will be blocked, as reported by Mobile World. The error is caused when the default San Francisco font across Apple devices tries to render the Telugu characters, PCMag quoted Aloha Browser as saying in a tweet.

Apple through its email has informed the developers that all the new apps submitted to App Store from now on must support iPhone X's Super Retina Display.

The firm has also updated its page for app submission guidelines to reflect this change.

The character comes from the Telugu language, a Central-Southern Dravidian dialect spoken in India by about 70 million people, around five percent of the total Indian population.

According to Axios, Apple is transforming its original software plans for this year to focus on addressing the performance and quality issues many users have been complaining about.

In an Open Radar bug report filed on Monday, Apple said it already patched the issue in the beta version of iOS 11.3. However, the problem does not seem to occur in the latest beta version of the iOS mobile operating system, which indicates Apple is aware of the issue and is preparing to release a fix, Mobile World noted.
