After launching in March last year, Nintendo has sold 14.86 million Switch units, almost 900,000 ahead of its 2017 target with three months left of its financial year. The console is making record sales and is offering its consumers the chance to not only play video games on TV but also carry it with them. The standout among them was "Super Mario Odyssey" with over 9 million copies sold worldwide within a mere 2 months. The company's earnings reports indicate that Nintendo experienced a 261% revenue bump from past year.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has reportedly stated to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, as translated by Nintendo Soup, that he wants to carry on selling the Switch for more than just the five or six-year average of most consoles. Here's hoping Nintendo combos the great Switch hardware, with a great online program! In just what way, we are bound to learn in the coming months as we get closer to the release of the service.

Its no secret that Nintendo's newest console has had a big year sales wise. Digital backward compatibility with the Wii U would have been incredible instead of having to buy all those games again.

"From February onward we will be releasing a wide variety of new software titles one after the next", Kimishima said.

Nintendo will reportedly be adding updated features to classic games, such as leaderboards and multiplayer.

Xbox and PlayStation established their paid online services years ago.

Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch, previously codenamed "NX", back in January of 2016.

In recent years, Nintendo did an about-face to its past policy of shunning smartphone games, and has scored success in that sector as well. The players cannot only chat and interact with another but also view statistics, make purchases online and track and compare their performances with their peers.
