  • The lawsuit presents an obstacle for ex Obama administration official Maria Contreras-Sweet's bid for the company

Weinstein, a former Hollywood titan, was accused of sexual assault and harassment by dozens of women.

The lawsuit, filed Sunday in New York County Supreme Court, comes amid negotiations over the sale of the company and its future leadership.

The Met Police are now investigating nine different accusations from women against Weinstein.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on Sunday filed a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, his brother Bob and The Weinstein Company, alleging civil and human rights violations stemming from Harvey's alleged sexual misconduct.

This lawsuit would not block the sale, but the A.G.'s office would be able to file a temporary restraining order blocking it within 30 days of the sale contract being signed.

"Any sale of The Weinstein Company must ensure that victims will be compensated, employees will be protected going forward and that neither perpetrators nor enablers will be unjustly enriched". "Every New Yorker has a right to a workplace free of sexual harassment, intimidation, and fear". Allegations first surfaced in October after an investigative report by the New York Times.

"Female Weinstein employees are essentially used to facilitate his sexual conquests of vulnerable women who hope he will get them work", one female executive said, according to the suit.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for The Weinstein Company for comment. Rather than conduct any investigation in Weinstein's alleged behavior, HR alerted the mogul to any allegations made against him, the suit says.
