Rafale deal: Rahul reiterates demand to disclose purchase price

"Maintaining fiscal deficit as high as 5.9 %, you are today lecturing us as to why you didn't bring it down to 3.2 %", he said. Now in another development, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has responded back to government's charge at the then Congress-led regime when it said that even they did not reveal details of defence deals.

Rahul's tweet reads, "Dear Mr Jaitlie, You said the UPA never released prices of Defence purchases? At least 15 previous Defence Ministers, including Pranab Mukherjee and AK Antony, have refused to give details of armament purchases", said Jailtey, replying to the volley of questions from the Congress MPs amid chaos in the House. To nail your lie, here are 3 Parliamentary replies by the UPA with full transparency on pricing.

The Finance Minister said, tax net has widened and direct tax collection up 19.3 per cent in April to January this year over previous year as a result of campaign against black money and GST.

Jailtey said that the Congress MPs should go to former President Pranab Mukherjee and learn lessons from him.

"I charge the Congress of seriously compromising India's security".

"Gandhi has been targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 2016 deal to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets".

On Thursday in the Lok Sabha, finance minister Jaitley had accused Rahul of "manufacturing the issue falsely at the cost of national security" by demanding the disclosure of the purchase price of each Rafale jet.

"What is the price per aircraft of the 36 Rafale aircraft being purchased by the Modi government?"

Jaitley said security pacts were an inherent part of defence transactions "because when you disclose the details of the price, you can give an approximate price, but when you give those specific details, you are giving details of the weapon system that you possess, and the capacity of the weapon systems which you don't want to inform the enemy".

Answering the questions Chidambaram posed in his speech on the budget on Thursday, Jaitley said when the pre-budget Economic Survey spoke of the remaining work in agriculture, employment and education sectors, it did not mean the problem was created in the last four years but implied the task left unfinished by 55 years of Congress rule.
