While Le Drian did not directly call for Turkey to withdraw, he mentioned that defending its borders "does not mean killing civilians" and that the country "should not add war to war".

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived in Tehran for an official visit on Wednesday and before meeting Iran's president, he met and talked with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected the recent statement by the head of Turkey's Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu, regarding a potential meeting between Ankara and Damascus, Al-Masdar News says.

"Unfortunately, following their failures in Iraq, some powers have turned to Syria with the aim of changing the geography of the region", he noted.

At least 1,028 People's Protection Units (YPG) militants have been "neutralized" since the beginning of Turkey's "Operation Olive Branch" in Syria's Afrin, the Turkish General Staff said on February 8.

"If the region is to have peace, terrorism in Syria should be eradicated".

"Fortunately, trilateral ties among Iran, Turkey and Russian Federation over regional issues have been highly significant and instrumental", Rouhani said, calling for further cooperation and consultations to solve the Syrian crisis.

Cavusoglu emphasized "we believe that we must stand against conspiracies that are aimed at undermining the territorial integrity of the countries of the region".

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu has assured Iran's president that his country's military operation in northern Syria is a temporary one and Turkey does not have its eye on Syria's territory, ARMENPRESS reports citing Iran Front Page.
