The English/American talent, 36, just landed a leading role on the ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier and has yet to lock down a contract for TWD season nine, strongly suggesting the star might not return to the post-apocalyptic series.

The Walking Dead only films during part of the year, so it's plausible that Cohan could appear on both series, although one would likely be in a more limited capacity.

Lauren has reportedly been highly in-demand this pilot season as she weighs her future in the zombie apocalypse.

"Sources say Cohan and her agents are not happy with the offers that have been on the table from AMC", THR reports.

It was Deadline which first reported the stall, with the actress supposedly turning down "a modest salary increase in exchange for a long-term contract" as she'd failed to secure a deal on a par with the two male leads, Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus.

A failure to get the contract signed could even mean that Maggie dies off-screen between seasons - something that will only make fans even angrier.

The dramedy pilot stars Scandal's Scott Foley and follows an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent and a CIA agent who are paired up to lead a new intra-agency team. Produced by Bill Lawrence, Foley's character is an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who has to work with a "quick and cunning" CIA operative (played by Cohan) to lead an inter-agency team of spies to save the world while "navigating the rocky roads of friendship, romance, and office politics".

The ABC option will either provide Cohan with an exit strategy from Dead or help her land a satisfactory payday at one of the biggest shows on TV.

TVLine reported that the comedy will follow Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Will Chase and his new partnership with Central Intelligence Agency operative Frankie Trowbridge.

The Walking Dead will return for the remainder of Season 8 beginning this Sunday, February 25.

Hemingson executive produces alongside Doozer's Lawrence and Jeff Ingold; Foley is a producer.
