  • Bon Ton Closing Stores in Our Area

The company's president and CEO, Bill Tracy, said the closures are part of a "comprehensive turnaround plan" that was announced in November to move forward with a more productive store footprint. In that Securities and Exchange Commission filing, the company also said it was considering opening new stores in cities other retailers are leaving behind and throwing more weight behind its Carson's chain.

Superior, Wis. - Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. announced today it will be closing the Younkers in Superior at the Mariner Mall.

The recently announced list of closures has eight Bon-Ton stores in Pennsylvania, including ones in Carlisle, Trexlertown and State College.

"There is no immediate plans for the space, but it definitely opens up opportunities for Aviation to reinvent the space once again", he said.

The list included nine Wisconsin stores, but not Boston Store at Regency Mall.

Bon-Ton has missed its financial targets consistently in recent years.

The stores to be closed include the Westdale Younkers in southwest Cedar Rapids and a Younkers in Cedar Falls.

"I am going to miss it that's for sure".

Miller said she was saddened to hear the department store and mall anchor is closing. Currently, the building is owned by a private investor from California, who owns several other Bon-Ton locations throughout the country. The sale will run for 10 to 12 weeks.

"The owners of the mall need to decide where to go from here", Mayor Robert Mielke said.
