Huang said the crash highlighted why companies are working to develop autonomous vehicles: reducing auto accidents that harm people and damage property.
The move to pause the tests comes one week after a self-driving Uber auto, which incorporates Nvidia technology in its self-driving vehicles, struck and killed a woman in Arizona.
But following a fatal accident last week in which an Uber self-driving vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian while in autonomous driving mode, Nvidia is suspending its testing.

Nvidia is working on self-driving cars of its own, as well, since some of its customers want the hardware maker to provide all the components necessary for them to create an autonomous vehicle. The first server powers the Nvidia DRIVE Sim, a software set that emulates a self-driving car's various sensors, including its cameras, lidar and radar.
"With virtual simulation, we can increase the robustness of our algorithms by testing on billions of miles of custom scenarios and rare corner cases, all in a fraction of the time and cost it would take to do so on physical roads", said Rob Csongor, vice president of automotive at Nvidia, in a statement.
Last week, Toyota also halted its self-driving vehicle testing. Nvidia is now leading the charge in developing technologies for self-driving vehicles, and it's not taking the news of Uber's fatal crash lightly.
Uber proactively suspended self-driving operations in all cities following the accident.
