The Maple Hill Elementary School fourth-grader flipped through a stack of index cards.

Ellen Gozansky Malka, a Montrealer now living in Parkland, told the crowd that two of her children were at the school during the shooting and saw things no child should see. They were American schools.

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students led a "March For Our Lives" rally Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Parkland, Fla.

When a Northport high school graduate reached out to them on their walkout Instagram page about a trip to D.C. for the march, Perles and Dowling began gauging other students' interest and signing them up to go.

Many of the Parkland students at the march in Washington on Saturday made it clear one of the next revolutions would be at the polls.

'We are going to be a great generation!' Eden Lugo shouted into the crowd. "Keeping our children safe is a top priority of the President's".

Emma's speech was six minutes and 20 seconds long, the same amount of time it took the gunman to kill her friends of fellow students and faculty members.

Host Colion Noir, whose real name is Collins Iyare Idehen Jr., said in a video put out by the National Rifle Association on Thursday that the shooting survivors rallying for gun control measures are only relevant because of the horrific deaths of their classmates. People interviewed said that meant in-depth background checks, more accountability of gun-show sales, prohibiting sales to minors, banning outright the sales of military style assault weapons to civilians, as well as the so-called "bump stocks" that give weapons semi-automatic capabilities.

Here's what you may have missed at the marches.

Gonzalez is unwavering in her embrace of her identity While Univision reported that she does not speak Spanish, she doesn't shy away from her Cuban identity. CNN called it "an example of what a school resource officer is supposed to do in such a circumstance".

Protesters across the country brought with them signs that sought to underscore their intense frustration and anger with policymakers over the issue of gun violence.

Sporadic chants of "Hey, hey, ho, ho, the NRA has got to go", and "Protect kids, not guns", appeared to warm the growing crowd as a cold wind blew.

Jennifer Hudson closed out the march by singing a rousing gospel rendition of Bob Dylan's "The Times They Are A-Changin'".

Parkland activists said they know their predominantly white faces help them get more attention. "The people demand we prohibit the sale of high-capacity magazines".

Their power, though, rested in their participating in the political system, Middletown High School senior Logan Gonzalez later told the gathering at the skate park. "While protests are a legitimate way of making a point, in our system of government, making a change requires finding common ground with those who hold opposing viewpoints", Rubio said in a press release.
