  • Actress De Shon Monique Brown best-known for her role as Connie on the TV series Chicago Fire has died aged 49

Before acting on the small screen, Brown was prominent in the Chicago theatre scene while working as a crisis counsellor at a high school in the city.

"The Chicago Fire family is devastated to lose on of its own", Wolf said in a statement obtained by TMZ. "Our thoughts and prayers are with DuShon's family and we will all miss her".

Brown told the website Hidden Remote a year ago that when the actress was first played the role of Connie on the NBC series, "my character didn't even have a name".

The actress reportedly admitted herself to hospital earlier this week after suffering chest pains but died days after being sent home. She was given tests and released.

Brown was born in Chicago, and played "Connie" on "Chicago Fire", an assistant to the show's fire chief. The actress wordlessly and memorably picked up a non-work-related fax for the firehouse group and have them a withering, long look before handing over the piece of paper on Thursday's two-hour episode.

Brown was a Chicago native and got her start in film and television in 2005.

Brown also had a recurring role as nurse Kattie Welch in Prison Break and one-time guest spots on Empire and Shameless.

Some of Brown's other notable TV credits included a few episodes of Boss on Starz to go along with Prison Break. She also appeared in various Chicago stage productions. "DuShon, most affectionately known to many as Connie on NBC's "Chicago Fire", died suddenly Friday morning of natural causes". "I am so sorry for your loss", one fan wrote. "It is so sad that the actress has just died", another added.
