Federal Bureau of Investigation looking into Ivanka Trump's global deals

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is looking into a deal between Ivanka Trump and a Malaysian company, amid allegations that the family of US President Donald Trump is mixing property affairs with official government business.

The FBI has been investigating the global business ventures of Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump on suspicion that these deals have been reached under pressure from China or other foreign agents, CNN reported.

The development, a 616-foot building that opened in February of previous year just after Trump took office, is not owned by the Trump Organization, but rather by Joo Kim Tiah, an heir to one of Malaysia's wealthiest families, according to CNN. At closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics last week, she briefed South Korean officials on the latest round of US sanctions against North Korea.

Joo Kim Tiah, who is CEO of Kuala Lumpur-based TA Global and its Vancouver subsidiary Holborn Group, which constructed and owns the hotel and condo tower on West Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver, did not immediately return calls to his cellphone.

It reported that President Trump's June financial disclosure form said the Trump Organization made more than US$5 million in royalties and US$21,500 in management fees from the Vancouver property.

CNN said the flow of foreign money, either from the developer or worldwide condo buyers, could be sparking scrutiny. He also denied that the investigation would impact Ivanka's security clearance in any way: "Nothing in the new White House policy has changed Ms. Trump's ability to do the same work she has been doing since she joined the Administration". Her husband, Jared Kushner, recently had his security clearance level downgraded.

"CNN is wrong that any hurdle, obstacle, concern, red flag or problem has been raised with respect to Ms. Trump or her clearance application", Peter Mirijanian, a spokesman for Ivanka Trump's ethics counsel, says in the CNN article.

"The company's role was and is limited to licensing its brand and managing the hotel", Alan Garten, executive vice president and chief legal officer for the Trump Organization, said. "Accordingly, the company would have had no involvement in the financing of the project or the sale of units".

Holborn declined to comment on the Ivanka Trump story Friday.

Probe could be due to property belonging to TA Global being one of the few involving Trump family to have opened after Donald Trump took office past year. It's unclear why the F.B.I.is interested in the deal, which dates back to 2013, and in which Ivanka played a key role.

This comes amid a report from the Washington Post claiming that officials in at least four countries, including China, have privately discussed ways they can manipulate Kushner by taking advantage of his complex business arrangements.

"Ultimately its about aligned visions", Ivanka Trump. "In that meeting, it was clearly just me and Ivanka talking about the project".
