"Simpson: Lost Confession? (ph)".

While heralded as hypothetical, it was Simpson's frequent use of the first-person, vivid details of the crime scene, and implication of a hypothetical accomplice named Charlie that had many referring to this interview as a blatant confession.

Newly-released video footage of O.J. Simpson speaking hypothetically about the murders of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman has social media speculating on one question: who is Charlie?

"You write about removing a glove before taking the knife from Charlie", Regan said.

In the interview, which was broadcast on Sunday night, Simpson discusses driving over to his ex-wife's home with "a guy I recently became friends with" called Charlie, armed with a knife.

In the interview, Simpson described Goldman as "a guy that I didn't really recognize".

Meanwhile, the airing of the interview included takes from host Soledad O'Brien, prosecutor Christopher Darden, Regan, Nicole's friend Eve Shakti Chen, Jim Clemente (retired Federal Bureau of Investigation head) and Rita Smith (spokeswoman for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence).

Simpson's children with Brown - son Justin, 29, and daughter Sydney, 32 - were five and eight years old when their mother was murdered.

Regan said she was contacted by an attorney for Simpson, who said the Hall of Fame running back was ready to confess to the murders. Everyone involved had concerns about Simpson exploiting the murders to reinflate his celebrity value, or at least to make that attempt, and accused Fox and Regan of exploiting the murders for profit and ratings. "Whatever you want to take from it, I can not control it", said Simpson.

Yes, O.J. Simpson: The Lost Confession is the programming equivalent of finding your meth-addict buddy on the floor of his apartment, face-down in a puddle of his own sick.

When host Soledad O'Brien says he sounds "furious" about the outcome, Darden goes on to explain how he felt when he saw rapper Kanye West in a "Free O.J." shirt a couple of years ago. It was meant to coincide with the publication via Fox's HarperCollins unit of a book by Simpson, "If I Did It", in which he detailed his "hypothetical" actions on the night of the murder. "Except I'm standing there, and there's all kind of stuff around, blood and stuff around".

He then goes quiet before he is said to laugh again, adding: "I'm sorry, I tend to keep my kids out of everything as you may notice". The special's executive producer, Terence Wrong, says Darden's "theory is that Charlie is OJ's alter ego".

Simpson told Regan that Brown came outside, and after she fell and hurt herself, Goldman "kind of got into a karate thing". "[Not] one Black person that I know".

Simpson was interviewed in 2006 about his part in a fictionalised, ghost-written book which never made it to print. In the call, which was used as evidence in his murder trial, she told police that he had "broken into" her house and was "ranting and raving outside in the front yard".
