Iranian Official Claims that European Missile Sanctions would Violate Nuclear Deal

  • US President Donald Trump rips Iran in Nowruz message

During their January meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the German leader told the Israeli premier that an American withdrawal would also split the West, pitting the United States and Israel against Germany, France, and the UK, along with Russia, China, and Iran, according to Israel's Channel 10 news.

Trump delivered an ultimatum to the European signatories of the nuclear deal-formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)-on January 12, saying he was providing a "last chance" to "fix the bad flaws of the Iran nuclear deal", sealed under his predecessor Barack Obama.

Mohammad Javad Zarif's warning comes after the US President threatened to unilaterally pull out of the deal, formally named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), if it is not revised.

Asked about concerns that Trump canceling the deal would lead to Iran running to nuclearization, Steinitz said the possibility of that is low because the Iranians know such steps could lead to a conflict with the U.S. and harsher sanctions. "In a speech in Tehran, the Supreme Leader Khamenei declared that Iran's regional policies are not up for discussion and that the United States and European countries do not have any right to conduct negotiations with Iran concerning its presence in the Middle East".

A USA withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement would have devastating consequences, German Chancellor Angela Merkel reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a recent phone conversation, Channel 10 reported.

Britain, France and Germany have proposed fresh European Union sanctions on Iran over its ballistic missiles and its role in Syria's war, according to a confidential document, Reuters reported last week.

Any fresh worldwide sanctions for Iran will definitely have an unequivocal impact with the nuclear agreement struck among world powers, Iran's deputy foreign secretary stated Friday, according to state networks.

Iran agreed to curbs on its nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of a number of sanctions as part of the deal.

The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center reported that Iran rejected any negotiations on the nuclear deal or its ballistic missile program.

Britain, France and Germany have proposed new European Union sanctions on Iran over its missile program and its regional role, a confidential document said on Friday, Reuters reported. But with time still to run until May, sanctions did not dominate the debate, diplomats said.

They said Sadr took steps as part of the project to evade USA economic sanctions by concealing the role of Iran and Iranian parties in payments sent through the US banking system.
