Mavericks owner Mark Cuban denies sexual assault allegation resurfaced from 2011

  • Mark Cuban was investigated for sexually assaulting woman in 2011

While she posed for the photo with Cuban, the woman told police, the Mavericks owner thrust his hand down the back of her jeans and down her buttocks before sticking his finger in the woman's vagina against her will. She later alleged Cuban sexually assaulted her during their impromptu photoshoot. However, if this suddenly turns into a cascade of allegations as has happened with many other prominent men in the #MeToo movement, then it goes without saying Cuban and the National Basketball Association would be embroiled in very problematic circumstances. After an investigation that included Cuban passing a lie detector test, the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office declined to press charges.

The alleged victim, however, insisted the report was a truthful account of events.

"I filed the report because what he did was wrong", she told Willamette Week. "I stand behind that report 1,000%".

According to Portland Police Department documents obtained by Willamette Week, a woman ran into Cuban while out on the town with her boyfriend following a Mavericks game against the Portland Trailblazers in April 2011. She told the newspaper she never sought media attention or money from Cuban and has moved on from the incident. "Oh my God, I don't know what to do".

Yet a friend of the woman also reportedly told officers that Cuban was "very drunk ... his eyes were half closed, he was unstable on his feet, and he was slurring his words".

The woman, who is now in her 30s and married, briefly spoke with Williamette Week about the incident.

A detective in the case described two of the photos as "significant" in his report, according to Willamette Week. HuffPost has reached out to Cuban for additional comment. "In one of the pictures, his arm can be seen behind [the alleged victim] and it appears Cuban is reaching down toward her buttocks".

Cuban denied the allegations in an email to the paper, saying, "It didn't happen".

His attorney, Stephen Houze, strongly denied the allegations against his client.

In his 2011 memo, Rees wrote that investigators interviewed friends of the woman with her at the nightclub as well as employees and other patrons.

The allegations come only two weeks after the Mavs became embroiled in a sexual harassment scandal.
