Meghan Markle laughs at Prince Harry during Commonwealth Day service

  • She spent two days being treated as a hostage “She will have been petrified.”

During this year's event, One Direction alum Liam Payne joined the festivities as a performer, singing John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change" for Markle, Prince Harry, the Queen and more Royal Family members.

Although the royals are sympathetic to Meghan's situation, they are reluctant to break with tradition.

The former Suits actress has reportedly decided against inviting her half-brother and her dad to St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19 May, and royal officials are opposed to a woman taking on the role, meaning the future King could be asked to perform the traditional duty.

Former Army intelligence officer Gerald Moor has also said the training is given by the "finest and toughest" officers and Markle has probably also been taught how to act around kidnappers.

Other members of the Royal Family in attendance included Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke of York, Princess Anne and the Countess of Wessex.

On Monday, the couple attended services at Westminster Abbey in honor of Commonwealth Day, which is an annual celebration of the Commonwealth countries. Following the service, William, Kate, Harry and Meghan will walk through Dean's Yard to attend a reception.

And this was not the first time Meghan has shared an embrace with a member of the public as during her visit to Scotland she hugged a homeless charity volunteer who told her she was "deeply inspired" by her.

Markle seems to be doing just fine in her royal tutelage, said Grant Harrold, an etiquette expert who goes by the moniker "The Royal Butler" after serving for the royal family.

Markle, who intends to become a United Kingdom citizen, also reportedly officially became a member of the Church of England earlier in March when she was baptized in a private ceremony.

Meghan Markle leaves after attending the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on March 12, 2018 in London. Future sis-in-law Kate Middleton did the same thing before wedding William in 2011.
