The Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, 2018 approved by Cabinet would help in laying down measures to deter economic offenders from evading the process of Indian law, by remaining outside the jurisdiction of Indian courts.

Both houses of Parliament will meet after a month-long recess in the Budget Session, during which the passage of the Fugitive Economic Offenders Bill, which seeks confiscation of assets of absconding fraudsters and loan defaulters, and the triple talaq bill will be high on the government's agenda.

Besides raising the issue inside Parliament, the Congress made a decision to stage demonstrations, rallies and press briefings across the country.

The government has also listed a few bills for consideration and passage in both Houses.

The BJP, however, will try to build on the momentum gained from the stunning victory in Tripura and the good showing in Meghalaya and Nagaland to demoralise rivals.

In the wake of the Nirav Modi-Mehul Choksi bank fraud case that came on the back of the BJP's defeat in the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh bypolls and the lacklustre showing in the Gujarat Assembly elections, the party had been on the back foot.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present in the Lok Sabha when the protests started. After the results, the BJP president Amit Shah had said that the party's next target was the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in Bengal and the CPM-led government in Kerala.
