The Manhattan Beach Police are hoping to keep St. Patrick's Day within reason this year and drunk drivers off the street.

Police say the department plans to deploy additional officers to various locations throughout the city to set up DUI checkpoints and "DUI saturation patrols".

The Chula Vista Police Department noted that nationwide in 2016, 60 people were killed in drunk-driving crashes during the holiday.

In recent years, California has seen an increase in drug-impaired driving crashes.

Norman police will make a concentrated effort to identify impaired drivers with a high-visibility responsible driving enforcement project with checkpoints and saturation patrols. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions, and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

The next major DUI crackdown will occur on Cinco de Mayo.

The primary function of these patrols will be to ticket unbelted vehicle occupants, arrest impaired drivers and heighten public awareness of the dangers of driving without wearing a seat belt or driving while under the influence of an intoxicating substance, according to police.

Delaware State Police along with the Delmar, Laurel, Seaford, Bridgeville and Greenwood Police Departments will be partnering with Maryland and Virginia law enforcement agencies to patrol the entire length of US 13 from Virginia to north of the Delaware line.

Don't let a friend drive if you think they are impaired.

Remember, it's not just about you! If you are driving, don't drink and if you are drinking don't drive.

And authorities urged people to call 911 to report impaired drivers. Also, if a friend is about to drink and drive, take away the auto keys. The OTS DDVIP app is now available for free download on iOS and Android devices.
