Renshaw added to Australia squad for final South Africa Test

  • Renshaw was dropped for Bancroft ahead of the Ashes after a lean spell on the sub-continent

It has forced sweeping changes to Australia's batting line-up and leadership group, giving Maxwell, Burns and Renshaw another potential shot in the Baggy Green while Tim Paine - who stepped in as interim captain in the third Test - will lead the country through one of its darkest times.

Now playing in the Sheffield Shield final in Brisbane, Renshaw is due to fly out Tuesday (March 27) night to join the squad in Johannesburg ahead of the game that starts Friday (March 30).

Coach Darren Lehmann's future is also under intense scrutiny.

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland has flown to South Africa and is expected to make an announcement Wednesday regarding the findings of the investigation.

Renshaw looks set to play in his first Test since September past year, after he was dropped in favour of Bancroft for the Ashes.

"I played them previous year for my debut so I've sort of got some idea of what's coming, but I'll just try to enjoy getting back and playing for my country".

While Bancroft only averaged 25.57 with the bat during the Ashes, he has fared a little better in the ongoing Test series against the Proteas as he is Australia's highest run-scorer with 223 runs, which includes two half-centuries, at an average of 37.16.

"Just been putting all my emotions into winning (for Queensland) and it's just relief now", he said.

But Renshaw will not have the chance to immediately celebrate it after being called into the Test squad as suspensions loom following the ball-tampering saga in South Africa.

Warner and Bancroft are yet to receive any sanctions from Cricket Australia, but Renshaw's addition to the squad suggests he could feature at the top of the order come Friday.
