  • Siri privacy bug on iOS 11 compromises your hidden notifications

As spotted by Mac Magazine, anybody can ask Apple's digital assistant Siri to read out the notifications on the handset and it simply will read it out loud.

Even if lock screen previews are turned off, Siri will still read the content in notifications aloud from third-party email and messaging apps.

The bug, which affects the current iOS 11.2.6 version as well as the iOS 11.3 beta, negates the choice many Apple users make to hide the contents of notifications from their home screen.

In this case, Apple has apparently gone slightly off-piste by admitting to the bug and saying it's working on a fix - but that's all we know so far. Apple in the statement said,"We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update".

Apple has acknowledged the problem and promised a fix soon.

Go to Settings → Touch ID & Passcode → ALLOW ACCESS WHEN LOCKED.

As pointed out by MacRumors, Apple iPhone X users have a reason to be anxious by this bug.

Many privacy conscious users have configured their iPhone settings so that any incoming notifications won't be displayed on the device's lock screen.

Regardless, it's probably not something that most users are aware of, and the discovery might be particularly concerning for iPhone X owners.

We accept that there are regulatory reasons why a lockscreen isn't allowed to lock out absolutely everything: in an crisis, you want to be able to dial 112, 911, 999, 000 or whatever the relevant emergency number is without fumbling your way through an unlock code first.

If you want to lock your phone down until Apple implements a patch, there is a way to avoid any nosey people from getting on your phone.

Turn off lock screen notifications for these sensitive apps (Settings Notifications select app Show on Lock Screen).

Thankfully there are some basic settings that can prevent Siri from reading out your personal messages without authentication, but it takes a toll at some of your convenience.
