President Donald Trump on Tuesday congratulated Russian President Vladimir Putin on his re-election and said they would likely meet soon as relations between the two countries grow more strained over allegations of Russian meddling in the usa electoral system.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed Trump spoke with Putin yesterday morning.

It said Putin and Trump also discussed North Korea, Syria, and Ukraine, while the conversation was focused on overcoming problems in bilateral relations.

The report cited officials familiar with the call, who said that Trump allegedly chose to ignore the warning and also did not listen to aides who instructed Trump to condemn Russian Federation on using a nerve agent in the U.K. Trump also did not bring up Russia's meddling in the 2016 election, White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told members of the press, CNN reported.

His comments came shortly after the White House suggested there would be no phone call between the leaders, despite both French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel making calls to Putin.

Mr. Trump noted that his administration was spending $700 billion to upgrade the American military, and said he would never allow Russian Federation, or any other country, to approach its military might.

Putin won his fourth term in Sunday's presidential election with 77 percent of the vote.

The note cards are similar to the one Trump was photographed clutching during a White House meeting with students and parents after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, officials said.

John McCain and others for calling Putin on Tuesday to congratulate him for his re-election.

Trump's failure to raise Moscow's alleged poisoning of the former Russian spy in Britain risked angering officials in London, who are trying to rally Britain's closest allies to condemn the attack.

The UK government blamed the nerve agent attack on Russian Federation, which denies any involvement. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov was quoted as saying on Tuesday he hoped Putin's win would lead to a thaw in the US-Russia relationship. He's also pressed the Trump administration to respond aggressively to Russia's interference in the 2016 USA presidential election.

"The leaders spoke in favor of developing practical cooperation in different spheres, including on questions of how to ensure strategic stability and fight worldwide terrorism", the Kremlin said in a statement.

President Vladimir Putin has expressed gratitude to the nation after winning a landslide victory in the presidential election, in which he garnered almost 77 percent of the votes. In 2000, Putin was thrust into the presidency for the first time and was later re-relected.

To be fair, congratulatory calls aren't entirely out of the ordinary.
