  • Trump Signs Omnibus Spending Package To Fund Government Through September

Although he ultimately put pen to paper, stating he only did so for reasons of "national security", he made sure everyone knew how unhappy he was in doing so.

Congress has passed the omnibus spending bill averting a government shutdown Senator Maria Cantwell announced this week that the budget contains a funding boost for U.S. Forest Service firefighting.

The ire at Trump poured in from across the internet, particularly from conservatives who have long argued that Trumpism was a real political ideology - one that this omnibus bill would violate.

"You tell me who can read that quickly", Trump said eyeing the bill as he decried defense cuts. But I say to Congress that I will never sign another bill like this again.

President Trump signed the spending bill Friday despite an earlier threat to veto the legislation.

The omnibus bill, the president said, necessarily boosts our military, increasing defense funding by $60 billion from past year.

He said DACA was abandoned by the Democrats. "Would have been tied to desperately needed Wall", he said.

The Gateway project has garnered bipartisan support among many NY and New Jersey lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and New Jersey Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, a Republican who chairs the House Appropriations Committee.

He slammed Democrats for what he described as opposition to higher military spending while calling spending on Democratic priorities "a wasted sum of money".

Trump also asked Congress to eliminate the Senate filibuster rule and to provide him with line-item veto authority for government spending bills.

Legislative Director Marc Short piggybacked off of Mulvaney, suggesting that the White House was willing to take a hit on DACA and border wall provisions in order to keep the government afloat.

The omnibus includes an increase of almost $1.5 billion in DOE clean energy funding, including a 14% increase to the renewable energy and efficiency office, and a 16% increase at the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E).
