Police have identified the remains of three more men suspected to have been murdered by alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur as they expand their investigation more than four decades into the past.

The 66-year-old landscaper appeared by video in a Toronto courtroom this morning where the Crown said the new first-degree murder charge had been laid in the death of Abdulbasir Faizi.

McArthur is also charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Skandaraj "Skanda" Navaratnam, Majeed Kayhan, Selim Esen, Andrew Kinsman, Soroush Mahmudi and Dean Lisowick.

Toronto police are expected to reveal "substantial" developments in their investigation on Wednesday afternoon. He says police also plan to investigate 75 properties linked to McArthur starting next month.

Police also released a forensic rendition of a man believed to be one of Mcarthur's victims, and said they're still trying to identify him. "It didn't make sense that police had this theory that he ran away", she said.

Det. -Sgt. Hank Idsinga also confirmed at a news conference Wednesday that investigators are reviewing 15 cold case murders that occurred between 1975 and 1997 to determine if there are any links to the alleged serial killings.

Idsinga said investigators needed to identify the man so they could pursue "possibles" with hopes that DNA or dental records would match up with found remains.

Mr. Faizi's vehicle was found early in 2011 on Moore Ave, not far from the property where Mr. McArthur stored his landscaping tools, and where a number of the bodies have been located. They say he targeted men he met through dating apps that cater to gay men, meeting them at bars in the Gay Village area of Toronto, as well as male prostitutes. The remains of all but Kayhan have been identified among those recovered from the planters at the Leaside home.

Many of McArthur's alleged victims were the subject of two previous police probes into the disappearances of men from the city's gay village.

Lisowick, a homeless prostitute who struggled with drugs hadn't even been reported missing when police announced he was one of victims.

"We've quite frankly never seen anything like it", Idsinga said.

McArthur, 66, was arrested in January.

Esen had been missing since April 2017 and Kinsman vanished a couple of months later. McArthur was interviewed by police during that project but it was closed in 2014.
