  • Apple reportedly plans iPhones with curved screens and non-touch gesture controls

In a world with so many smartphone manufacturers constantly competing with each other for a share of the market, innovation is a key factor and Apple is attempting to be at the forefront of innovation once again. As a result, the Apple rumor mill has been working overtime lately. The touchless control feature essentially works as it sounds - allowing you to perform tasks without actually touching the iPhone's display.

The phone, which, according to Bloomberg, is expected to take at least two years to arrive, will feature a curved display. A curved iPhone may be as little as two to three years away, the person said. The screen curvature is reported to bend inward gradually from top to bottom, unlike Samsung phones which curve on the screen's left and right edges. The curves will presumably be a lot more noticeable than the slightly curved display on the bottom of the iPhone X. Now it remains to be seen how the touchless gesture feature works out for Apple.

Apple is staying ahead of the curve by introducing features not found in competitors' models. Instead of putting the sensors in the bezel, the entire screen would act as a sensor to detect finger proximity and position. It is rumored to be working on iPhones with curved screens and controls that work with just the wag of a finger. Samsung is already working on a foldable smartphone, while Huawei is seeing increased success in Asia.

Apple has been working on their ARM-based processors now available inside iOS devices, the Apple Watch, and the Apple TV.

While the Apple projects aren't imminent, the company has near-term plans to expand OLED technology, or organic light emitting diode, to more devices, according to other people familiar with the matter. With last year's iPhone X, they showed how a fullscreen display is done in style along with a modern biometric verification system.
